CANYON LAKE, TX – 100 degree heat greeted 100 anglers for the 14th Thursday Nighters event of 2018. Rising temps and dropping water levels may be the cause for the drop in weights and limits this week, however; first place team of Jason Olivio and Joey Rodriguez didn’t mind as they brought in a solid limit of 13.53 pounds and also won big bass with a 6.91 pounder. Joey and Jason said they caught fish almost all night and targeted depths in the 6-10’ range. They also said they caught their big fish early on a frog and then used soft plastics to fill out their limit and cull 4 times. It was the teams second win of 2018.

For the first time in Thursday Nighters history we saw a tie at 2nd place with the teams of Rusty Reedy and Steve Maples and the team of Blake and Cade Dornburg both brining in 8.80 pounds to the scales. It was Rusty and Steves fourth time in the last 5 weeks to bring in a limit and were awarded with their first payday of 2018. Topwater and soft plastics was the key to their success. Blake and Cade Dornburg were reunited after a 2 week layoff to get their first pay day of 2018 as well. The team said they fished from 2’ out to 22’ throwing a variety of baits and caught them on everything to get to their limit.

Water levels continue to drop and water temps continue to rise pushing more and more fish to deeper water. The top water bite is also picking back up with more teams reported to have caught fish on frogs and spook type baits but overall the fishing was a bit tough and the fish scattered.
