CANYON LAKE, TX – It was a nice change from the howling winds we endured the first two weeks of the season as the wind laid down as the evening went on. With 7 pounders locked on beds and 10 pounders swimming around the registration table (which was later caught and weighed 9.90 pounds not in the tournament though) tactics may have changed for many. There were a lot of fish caught, and a lot of fish caught shallow. Tyler Stanley fishing in his 45th Thursday Nighter with partner Kevin Jackson fishing his 25th, pulled it all together at the right time on a night that saw 64 teams and made for a huge 1st place payout. In 2017 Tyler & Kevin impressively brought a limit to the scales in more than half of the 19 events they fished together and brought in a limit last week as well. Keeping with their strengths, the team flipped soft plastics shallow most of the night and were able to cull a few times to get up to their final weight of 14.46 pounds and take home $1000 and their first Thursday Nighter win!

2nd Place went to Clint West and Jason Murphree who have fished less than 15 Thursday Nighters in their career, but have just gotten their first top 3 finish. This team has been as solid as anyone brining in a limit every week in 2018 with Jason currently sitting 2nd in the AOY Standings. Like the winners, this team flipped hard woods all night. They weighed in 12.52 pounds and caught the big bass of the tournament weighing in at 5.66 pounds that earned them an additional $320 on top of the $575 for second place.

Flipping shallow out to 8 feet of water was definitely the deal for the winners in this event. A lot of fish still being caught, and a lot of dinks, but anglers reported that the bigger fish are running together. With the almost full moon, the fish were doing their thing shallow as witnessed by many at the registration docks.
