LAKE DUNLAP, TX – 38 teams showed up to a lake that has seen better days, but Thomas Howe and Phillip Thompson put together 1 of 3 limits weighed in tonight going just short of 14 pounds for the win. For the 3rd week in a row the team drew boat #34, and perhaps 3rd time is the charm. Thomas mentioned that the fishing was slow to start out and they had one keeper in the boat before dark. After the sunset the team said the fishing picked up. Lucky for them they were in the 2nd flight due back at 10:15 as it took every minute for them to cull their last fish and secure the win and take home $600. The team said they caught their fish on small soft plastics in 10-12 ft of water.
2nd place went to father and son team of Greg and Corey Schnautz. They drew just 1 boat number before the winners and have been contenders all year on Lake Dunlapy. They weighed in 4 solid fish for 12.44 pounds. With their 2nd place finish they also took home a TFO Skeeter custom rod by having a receipt from Boerne Marine.
3rd Place went to Charles Chilldress and Adrian Buitron with just 3 fish, but they were good ones weighing in at 10.95 pounds and they also won Big Bass with a 4.83 pounder. Unlike the winners they caught their fish early on swimbaits in the current on the upper end of the lake. With their 3rd place finish and Big Bass the team took home $390.
Fishing remains tough on Lake Dunlap after the floods with size and numbers both down from previous years. Current still ripping at 900cfs and expected to be back to normal next week and hopefully will change things up for the better.
