CANYON LAKE, TX – 100 degree temps greeted the 63 anglers who made it out to the final Canyon Lake event of 2016, and for this week it was the late boat draws in flight #2 who topped the leaderboard. Anthony Skouby and Bob Prescott drew boat #38, ran to their first spot and immediately started putting keepers in the boat. The team said they caught close to 15 fish and were able to cull 4 times throwing carolina rigged flukes on deep points near the dam. This is Anthony and Bob’s second Thursday Nighter win of 2016 and Anthony’s 3rd overall. With the win the team took home $560.

2nd thru 5th place was extremely tight with less than a half pound separating 2nd and 5th. Josh Cowie and Bobby Rodriguez with only 4 fish however squeaked it out to take 2nd place and win $335. They too drew a late boat number and were one of the last 5 boats released with boat #35. Although they didn’t catch a lot of fish, Bobby did mention that he caught 2 of their keepers at the same time. While he was reeling in his swim jig he hooked a fish, then seconds later a 2nd keeper tried to take the jig from the other fish and hooked itself in the process. The team said they caught the other 2 throwing shakey heads around steep banks.

Big Bass honors went to Craig Musselman and Jason Funderburk with a healthy bass that tipped the scales at 5.08 pounds. They caught their fish throwing a jig way out on the end of a boat ramp. Jason mentioned that they had quite the audience that saw them catch that big fish. He also mentioned it didn’t take them long for the other anglers on the bank to run over with their rods and attempt to cast out to where they were.

There were a ton of small fish on the chew last night. Many anglers reported to have caught 20+ fish, but many couldn’t find the keeper sized fish. The teams that did have limits mentioned that you just had to stick with it and cull threw the smaller ones to get a keeper. Shakey heads, swim jigs, dropshots, and caroling rigs are all working on deep points.
