LAKE DUNLAP, TX – The 2nd event of 2016 got under way with 28 teams enjoying the temps in the low 70’s at blast off and dropping to upper 50’s by weigh in. Charles Whited and Garret Nies picked up where they left off last year and came in with 5 solid fish and the only limit of the tournament. The team fished 7 spots most of the evening on a variety of soft plastics with a very light weight targeting cypress trees. Charles and Garret said they caught only 5 keepers all evening, but all 5 were solid 3 ½ to 4 pound fish. The team spent most of their time on the lower end of the lake and mentioned that their bite stayed consistent all night.

2nd place went to Shawn Tamez and Darren Simmons who only managed 4 fish but one was good enough for big bass. Shawn and Darren were one of the very few teams who started on the upper end of the lake and targeted tree roots and lay downs with jigs and spinnerbaits but were only able to manage a few undersized fish. The team moved mid lake and fished deeper docks and retaining walls with swimbaits and shakey heads and immediately started putting better sized fish in the boat. At 8:30 pm the team said they scored the big fish on a swimbait running it along side of the dock and were able to find their 4th keeper and final fish on the swimbait just before 9.

Overall the bite on Dunlap remains slow for keeper sized fish, but many teams reported to have caught several undersized fish flipping natural shoreline and throwing crankbaits on flats and retaining walls. Water temps ranged from 71 up lake to 65 at the lower end of the lake.
